POLICE are investigating the cause of a fire at Beachcomber Island Resort in the Mamanucas last Friday.

Spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident saying no one was hurt.

“The fire started at about 1.30am,” Ms Naisoro said.

“One bure was destroyed and it was vacant at the time of the incident. The cause and cost of damages incurred during the fire are yet to be ascertained.”

When contacted yesterday, resort manager Memia Marama declined to comment.

According to a report by the New Zealand Herald, the resort was hosting 200 New Zealand schoolies at the time of the incident.

And the report also claimed that NZ Prime Minister John Key’s son was among the schoolies holidaying at the resort.
