TAMING their Pool C opponents in the HSBC SVNS Series is the paramount task for the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau understands the vitality of a win over them when they meet Spain, the United States and Uruguay at the Vancouver 7s.
Facing the media after an intense training session with his side at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva, Kolinisau acknowledged the intensity and flair within the Spanish side had become a formidable force to reckon with.
“If we’ve learned anything from our last game in Perth, then we have Spain who’s very consistent and it’s a very tough team.”
“The challenge will be there for us to produce against Spain and I know they’ll come out hard too because they have that mentality.”
Kolinisau explained the manner in which the Spaniards would mount their approach on the field.
“If they’ll knock us out in the pool stages then they’ll run away clear on the points as well,” he added.
He also mentioned the approach they would adopt when they faced their two opponents – Uruguay and the USA.
“We have Uruguay upwards again and that’s something the boys are looking forward to. We have USA who are starting to find their stride under (head coach) Simon Amor and we are not taking anything lightly,” the former sevens skipper highlighted.
Not mincing his words, Kolinisau stated the team would consider every game as a final and take each game as they face it head-on.
