A successful finish to the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League competition saw three new champions crowned during an action-packed finals day at the 4R Stadium, Govind Park in Ba yesterday.

Fans turned up in numbers to witness exciting rugby league action in the U15, U17 and U19 grades.

In the U15 grade, Nasinu Panthers claimed the title after defeating first timers Gospel Saints 12-8 in a closely contested final.

The Panthers showed composure and discipline throughout the match and managed to hold off a determined Gospel Saints side to lift the trophy.

The U17 final saw hosts Ba Methodist High School edge Sigatoka Methodist College 18-16 in front of their passionate home crowd.

Supported strongly by the vanua of Ba and loyal fans, Ba Methodist made a strong first-half start and managed to hold on despite a late fightback from Sigatoka Methodist College.

In the main clash of the day, Queen Victoria School defeated Tailevu neighbours Ratu Kadavulevu School 28-26 in a thrilling U19 final.

QVS dominated the opening half before RKS staged a strong comeback in the second spell, however the boys from Matavatucou held their composure to secure the narrow win.

The atmosphere was electric with parents, old scholars, supporters and school communities turning out in numbers, highlighting the continued growth and popularity of secondary schools rugby league in Fiji.
