THE final day of the Southern Zone Secondary Schools Rugby Union competition has finally arrived, with the region’s top schools set to battle for championship honours across all grades today.
After weeks of fierce competition, the best teams have earned their places in the finals, setting the stage for another day of action-packed rugby as Southern Zone supremacy goes on the line.
Across the board, schools have shown their best performances, displayed excellent teamwork and demonstrated determination throughout the competition. However, only the strongest sides were able to secure places in today’s finals, setting up a thrilling contest for Southern Zone honours.
The spotlight today will be in the under-18 final, where defending champions Suva Grammar School (SGS) will look to claim back-to-back Southern Zone titles when they take on Nasinu Secondary School (NSS) in the final match of the day.
Backed by home support, the lion’s den will be eager to continue its dominance, while the boys from Nasinu will be determined to dethrone the defending champions.
The senior grades will continue the finals action, SGS and NSS will be set to battle for the U19 title. The U17 final will see Gospel High School (GHS) take on SGS, while the U16 decider features Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School (MGM) against NSS.
Moving into the lower grades, SGS will face Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) in the U15 final, while MGM takes on SGS in the U14 championship match.
The Weet-Bix Raluve finals will also provide exciting encounters, with SGS facing NSS in the U16 final, while MGM meets Lomary Secondary School in the U18 decider.
Play-off matches will also be held on the day.
MBHS will meet NSS in the U14 grade, GHS takes on NSS in the U15, SGS faces MBHS in the U16, Naitasiri Secondary School goes up against MBHS in the U17, while Assemblies of God High School will face Ratu Simione Matanitobua College in the U19 grade.
With Southern Zone titles and pride at stake, supporters can expect a full day of exciting rugby as the region’s finest schools battle for championship honours.
Play-offs and final matches will be held at the SGS Grounds and Veiuto Grounds.
