Fiji Swimming hosted their final trials for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, with 31 athletes participated in the competition at the National Aquatic Centre in Laucala yesterday.
Cheyenne Rova, the manager of Fiji Swimming for the Palau Mini Games, mentioned that 31 athletes from five different clubs in Suva and the West attended the trials.
Following the trials, Fiji Swimming’s selection committee will engage in the selection process, with the aim of choosing 16 swimmers to represent the country at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau.
The swimmers showcased excellent performances during the trials, making the task of selecting the team easier for the committee.
“All the swimmers are really doing well with their times today (yesterday), and that makes our work easier, and it’s great to see the swimmers in a focus mode,” said Rova.
“The trials just show the passion these swimmers have to compete at a high level, and it all comes down to the day.”
The anticipation and excitement among the athletes were palpable, with each swimmer striving for a coveted spot on the Fiji team.
“Really proud of this youth group that we have, and everyone is just super excited, everyone’s backing each other.
“We can see we only have 31 athletes, small competition, but the nice thing about our sport is it has that family kind of environment, so everyone is just doing their best to book a sport in the Fiji team.”
The Pacific Mini Games will be held from July 25 to August 4.
