Final camp for U16 girls

The Fiji under-16 girls football team will focus on sharpening their skills and, building combinations and understanding their playing roles when they march into their final training camp later this month.

Head coach Marika Rodu has named a 25-member squad to begin their final preparations for the OFC U16 girls’ championship 2025, which will be held in Samoa this August.

The players will repost to camp on Sunday June 29 at the Fiji Football Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa.

“We have four weeks to set our combinations and get the girls understand their positional roles,” he said in interview with the Fiji Times yesterday.

“The players will go through technical and skill sessions to improve their decision-making based on how we want to play in Samoa.”

Rodu said they would also work on technical organisation as well as the mental and physical parts of the game.

He stressed that this is the final camp, and all the focus will be on getting the team ready for international tournaments

“These players were identified through the two previous camps led by women’s head coach Angeline Chua earlier this year,” he shared.

Rodu also added that football will be the priority, they would also manage the players workload as most are still in school.

“The girls are students as well and we will manage the training loading so that girls are not fatigued or lose the motivation,” he said.

The team has its eyes on qualifying for the FIFA U17 women’s world cup next year.

“The girls come into camp we will than we will collectively define our team culture and purpose. These once designed will be our compass towards our vision.”

The squad includes: Shania Singh, Anaseini Bukavou, Titilia Latui, Nauseeba Azharia, Kalisi Dama, Teonila Levuiciva, Vilomena Batirerega, Ulamila Reva,Tarusila Maivunidawa, Melania Keresoni, Kinisimere Botesulu, Iliana Vula, Varanisese Naiqarau, Sisilia Kuladina, Zyna Nisha, Selai Kasim, Khushi Lal, Esther Vunivi, Kinisimere Manisega, Seini Tadulala, Tavenisa Hamida, Miliana Maramanikabu, Beatrice Hariet, Melesisi Selemafi and Paulini Lewatu.
