FIJI’S very own homegrown circus is set to dazzle audiences again this year, with the return of the Fijian Flying Circus in a major showcase of local talent and creativity, presented in collaboration with Communications Fiji Ltd (CFL) and the Fiji Arts Council.

Director of VOU Dance Fiji, Sachiko Soro, expressed excitement about bringing back the vibrant and distinctly Fijian circus performance, which will run from July 4 to July 20 in Suva, and August 2 to August 20 in Nadi.

“We’re super excited about being able to bring the circus back to town,” Ms Soro said during a press conference which was held in Suva last week.

“Our cast and crew are all Fijian, and all the youth in the program have been trained through our Conservatory of Dance.”

Ms Soro said each year, VOU selects 20 young people from across the country, including rural and island communities, to undertake a fully supported two-year Diploma in Dance.

The graduates are then guaranteed full-time employment with VOU and later supported with opportunities for further training overseas.

“We’re really trying to provide long-term pathways for Fijian artists,” she said.

“The circus is one of those pathways, and we hope to bring hope to people’s hearts all around the world.”

CFL general manager Charles Taylor reaffirmed the company’s support for the event, praising the collaboration and shared values that underpin the partnership.

“We’re in the entertainment space, we work hard, and we’re passionate about what we do, and we like to have fun, so this collaboration works naturally for us,” Mr Taylor said.

“So, you can be assured that everybody will hear about the Fijian Flying Circus on all our platforms and our radio stations, as we work towards your dream, which is making sure that every individual has a chance to do whatever they want in this country.

“Whether it be academia, sports, or arts, which is something that we want as well.”
