A boost for Team Fiji Bowls as the bowlers prepare towards the 2022 Commonwealth Games as there are talks to schedule tests against the Australian Jackaroos in the country early next year.

“There is talk in the 2022 calendar that the Jackaroos, the Australian national bowling team, will come down for some test matches against us,” said team manager Astral Smith.

With no scheduled overseas tournaments before the games in Birmingham, Smith said, if plans come to fruition, the tests would help tremendously in team Fiji’s preparations.

“It is for our team, that they will be able to get the exposure, rather than going overseas and just waiting for the actual Commonwealth Games.”

Team Fiji began its first round of trials at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday in the hopes of putting together a formidable team to fly the flag in England next year.

“We have a good number of players competing in the first trials including nine women and 14 men.

“Two of our top players known even in world bowls competitions are Semesa Naiseruvati and Litia Tikoisuva, they have represented Fiji many times and are always strong contenders.”

Team Fiji will take a team of 10 players, five men and five women to the Commonwealth Games.
