Fiji volleyball faces talent development challenges

FIJI has a lot of natural talent when it comes to volleyball but the real challenge lies in how to train and groom these talents so they can reach their full potential in the sport.

Fiji men’s volleyball assistant coach and team trainer Peni Ratumaiyale made the statement during the team’s fitness screening test at the FMF Gymnasium on Saturday.

He said Fiji had an abundance of talents but the challenge was the training and the grooming of these talents.

“There is a lot of talented players… the talent is here… but to train the talent is not there,” Ratumaiyale said.

He also said there were other factors or other areas that needed to be addressed in order for their players’ talents to be addressed.

“I have identified some talents and we are doing some training that will help them to realise that the talent they got can take them somewhere.”

He said they worked on discipline, attendance and time management because they were trying to get their players to behave professionally on and off the field.

“The main thing here is we are trying to make them focus on what are they doing and how important it is not only for the sport’s development and their progression but mainly for themselves ,” he said.
