The Digicel Fiji Young Kulas faced their toughest challenge at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, suffering a heavy 11-0 defeat to France in their final pool match this past Saturday.

Despite not securing a win in any of their pool games, the team remains optimistic and proud of their efforts.

Looking back on their journey, 19-year-old Priya Singh shared her pride in the team’s perseverance and determination.

She emphasised the valuable lessons and experience gained from competing against some of the world’s best teams.

“I mean after the match I can say I’m proud of the girls. This is our first time in the tournament, and I think they fought hard to the end and I’m very grateful we got this opportunity,” said Singh.

She sees this tournament as a stepping stone for the team’s growth and development for future competitions.

“It is really a learning experience for us, playing against world class teams, it’s really a great opportunity and we will learn a lot of things in our first World Cup,” she said

As the team prepares to return to Fiji next week, three players — goalkeeper Aliana Vakaloloma and forwards Asenaca Naio and Elesi Tabunase — will be joining the squad along with defender Aleeza Raza, who currently plays in Australia.
