THE Fiji under-15 football team lost 0-1 to Solomon Islands in their opening match of the OFC U15 Development Tournament held in Wellington, New Zealand.

The match was evenly contested with both sides showing skill and effort.

Fiji held their ground for most of the game and created a number of promising chances.

However, they could not find the back of the net.

The winning goal for Solomon Islands came in the last 30 seconds of the final third.

It was a heartbreaking moment for the young Fijian team, who had defended well throughout the match.

Fiji U15 head coach Marika Rodu said he was proud of the boys’ performance despite the result.

“The boys did fairly well most of the match. Both teams showed great potential and intensity during the match,” he said.

Rodu said the team needs to work on taking their chances and building momentum.

“Just need to finish our chances, create more chances consistently and build confidence,” he added.

Fiji will now return to the training ground and prepare for their second match of the competition.

They will face Vanuatu tomorrow at 11am.

Rodu said the team would focus on learning from their mistakes and improving in the next game.
