THE Fiji under-16 men’s football side have topped Group A of the OFC U16 Men’s Championship after a 3-0 win over Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Fiji opened strongly with Zaman Shah finding the back of the net in the sixth minute of play as he shot a corner kick right in between the goalposts.
They did not let go of their grip in dominance as Jerry Levea added another goal in the 19th minute after casting a long-range strike that soared to success.
Before the hooter buzzed for the breather, Isoa Baselala swung a shot of his own between the posts as the home team went into the locker room searching for a reply.
However, the second spell saw Fiji maintain a dynamic lead and made them seal off any opportunity by the hosts to respond with a goal.
Despite PNG’s loss, they have also booked a spot in the semi-finals.
The two teams to reach the championship’s final will qualify to represent Oceania at the 2027 FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup.
