Fiji will be hosting the 2027 Green World Awards following a landmark global achievement by a Fiji-based sustainability initiative.

The Gaia (Earth) project, led by Blue Phoenix Group (Fiji) – established by the founders of a multi award-winning education group in New Zealand – has been awarded the 2026 Green World “Champion of Champions”, the highest honour presented by the Green Organisation at a recent award ceremony in Cardiff Castle, Wales.

Founder and CEO of the Green Organisation, Roger Wolens said they were delighted to honour the achievements of Blue Phoenix Group as its Champion of Champions, effectively recognising them as an environmental world leader among more than 500 entries.

“We have been organising international environment and CSR awards for 32 years,” Mr Wolens said.

“And it is rare to see such a sustained level of commitment, investment, and impact over a 16-year period, combined with a clear and ambitious vision for the future now underway in Fiji.”

The 2027 awards ceremony is expected to bring an international delegation of sustainability leaders, investors, media, and policymakers to Fiji in April 2027, presenting a unique opportunity to showcase Fiji’s leadership in regenerative development, climate resilience, and high-value sustainable tourism.

The Gaia (Earth) initiative is a multi-phase development based in Dreketi, Vanua Levu, integrating:

q Regenerative agriculture and processing for the global nutraceutical sector to be launched in 2026;

q Fiji’s first internationally accredited Dark Sky Region, positioning the country as a global astro-tourism destination- launching in 2028; and,

q A 100 per cent solar-powered and bamboo constructed rainforest wellness retreat aligned to the ultra-luxury regenerative tourism market, targeted for 2030.

Project founder Dr Darius Singh, whose family legacy in Fiji dates back over 100 years, said this historic achievement was not just a win for them, but for Fiji as a whole.

“It demonstrates that small island nations can lead the world in building regenerative, future-focused economies that can lift trajectories for people, planet, and prosperity,” he said.

Discussions are now underway with key national stakeholders regarding hosting opportunities, including venue partnerships, national branding, and curated site visits for international delegates.

With Fiji hosting the 2027 Green World Awards, it is expected to further strengthen its global positioning as a leader in sustainability and high-value, low-impact tourism.

The Green World Awards is one of the world’s most prestigious environmental recognition programs, celebrating innovation and leadership in sustainability across nations, industries, and communities.
