Fiji military will establish a new Fijian deployable United Nations Standby Company at the Blackrock Camp in Nadi.

The Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced this on Saturday in Nadi while receiving 14 protected mobility vehicles from the Australian government.

Mr Rabuka said with these 14 Bushmasters, Fiji has significantly bolstered its capacity to contribute to global peace and security.

“The Bushmasters will help ensure the safety of our peacekeepers and enable them to continue their valuable contributions to world peace,” he said.

“These Bushmasters ensure we meet UN deployment requirements and will prepare a new Fijian deployable UN Standby Company, here at RFMF Headquarters Joint Task Force Command at Blackrock Camp.

“This will ensure Fiji is ready for international and regional peacekeeping missions now and in the future,” Mr Rabuka said.

“The Bushmasters will support peacekeeping training for our security forces and can be utilised for international and regional peacekeeping missions.”
