The Fiji Development Bank (FDB) will be hosting the landmark 50th Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) Annual Meeting in Fiji next year.
FDB secured the hosting rights on behalf of the country during the ADFIAP board meeting at the 49th Annual Meeting held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, last month.
This selection reflects the confidence of member institutions in Fiji’s ability to convene development finance leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.
The event is expected to attract representatives from development banks, financial institutions, policymakers, and development partners from ADFIAP’s network spanning 42 countries and 97 member institutions.
In a further recognition of Fiji’s growing influence, FDB chief executive officer Filimone Waqabaca was elected as one of two vice chairmen of ADFIAP during the board meeting.
This appointment positions Fiji at the forefront of discussions shaping the future direction of development finance across the region. The Bank also received a prestigious Merit Award for its pioneering efforts through the FDB Sustainable Blue Finance Facility, acknowledging its commitment to protecting Fiji’s ocean resources while supporting economic growth, livelihoods, and resilience.
Mr Waqabaca said the recognition reflected Fiji’s growing leadership in sustainable and innovative development finance through the bank.
“These achievements are a testament to the commitment and dedication of the Fiji Development Bank in delivering positive impactful development outcomes for Fiji,” the CEO said in a statement.
“The recognition of our Sustainable Blue Finance Facility highlights the importance of sustainable financing solutions in addressing climate and environmental challenges while creating economic opportunities for our people.
“We are also equally honoured that Fiji has been entrusted to host ADFIAP’s 50th Annual Meeting in 2027. This milestone event will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase Fiji’s development journey and strengthen partnerships that advance sustainable growth across the region.”
