Fiji reports 38 new COVID cases

Thirty-eight new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Fiji for the 24-hour reporting window and one COVID death recorded on October 1.

The death is that of an 82-year-old man from Suva who presented to the CWM hospital in respiratory distress, and died three days after admission.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said there were 77 COVID-19 patients admitted to the hospital – 38 patients admitted at the Lautoka Hospital and 39 at CWM hospital, St Giles, and Makoi.

He said two patients were considered to be in severe condition, and four in critical condition.

“There have been 20 new recoveries to report since the last update, which means that there are now 12,875 active cases,” Dr Fong said.

There have been 51,098 cases recorded during the outbreak that started in April 2021; and a total of 51,168 cases recorded since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 37,168 recoveries.
