Fiji has reported 128 new cases of COVID-19 for the 24-hour period that ended at 8am today.
And 12 COVID deaths were also reported for the period July 27 to September 5 (2021).
Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said 78 cases were reported from the Western Division, 45 cases from the Central Division, and five from the Eastern Division.
He said the five positive cases are in Kadavu and one new case in Naviti, Yasawa Islands.
He said all those individuals had been isolated.
Dr Fong said of the 12 deaths, four were reported from the Western Division and eight were reported from the Central Division.
He said three of the deaths were reported for July because the formal issuance of the death certificates was delayed.
“There have been 1687 new recoveries to report since the last update, which means that there are now 14,404 active cases; 3399 active cases are in the Central Division, 10,689 active cases in the Western Division, four active cases in the Northern Division (Macuata) and 312 active cases in the Eastern Division (all in Kadavu),” Dr Fong said.
There have been 47,923 cases recorded during the outbreak that started in April 2021; and a total of 47,993 cases recorded since the first case was reported in March 2020, with 32,728 recoveries.
