Fiji has received a consignment of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines from the New Zealand government.
Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete received the handover from New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Jonathan Curr.
“Today marks another momentous day in our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic when Fiji received the vaccine to be able to protect our young children, with the support of the New Zealand government,” Dr Waqainabete said.
“And this is not the only assistance we have received from the NZ government, as New Zealand has stood by Fiji during this pandemic and supported us in many ways.”
He said the first batch of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines received from New Zealand were assigned to be administered to children aged 12-14 years old.
“We are indeed grateful to the Government and the people of NZ for this tremendous donation and assistance towards our COVID-19 response, and we look forward to continuing our partnership as we work towards protecting our peoples and returning our countries to where we were before.”
