Fiji real estate sector records $149.3m in gross output

Fiji’s real estate activities generated $149.3 million in gross output in 2024, according to the latest survey released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

The Real Estate Activities 2024 report provides an overview of businesses involved in activities with their own or leased properties as well as those operating on a fee or contract basis.

The Bureau surveyed 484 establishments and received responses from 343, representing an overall response rate of 71 per cent.

The responding establishments accounted for $141.2 million, or 95 per cent of the industry’s total gross output of $149.3 million.

According to the survey, 282 responses were received from 398 establishments involved in real estate activities with their own or leased property.

Another 61 responses came from 86 establishments involved in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis.

Private limited companies represented the largest category among responding establishments.

Of the 343 establishments that responded, 195 were private limited companies, while 109 operated under individual ownership and 31 were partnerships.

The remaining establishments included statutory enterprises, a public limited company, a non-profit organisation and cooperatives.

The survey also provides an indication of employment generated by the sector.

A total of 1,350 people were engaged in real estate activities as at June 30, 2024.

Of these, 1,085 were associated with businesses dealing with their own or leased property, while 265 were involved in real estate activities conducted on a fee or contract basis.

The figures show 632 local workers and one expatriate were working with pay.

There were also 480 working proprietors and 237 unpaid family workers recorded across the surveyed establishments.

For businesses involved in their own or leased properties, 603 of the 1,085 people engaged were male and 482 were female.

The Bureau noted that figures contained in the report are in Fiji dollars and at current prices, with estimates for non-response included in most of the report’s tables.
