Fiji ranks 125 in global gender gap index

Update: 5:50PM FIJI is currently ranked 125 out of 144 countries on the 2017 Global gender gap index report that was published by the World Economic Forum.

The rankings are based in terms of women’s economic participation, education, health and political empowerment from a scale of zero to one.

This was a result of Fiji’s improved population and data count in the 2017 Population and Housing Census, which had allowed the country to be re-entered into the Global gender gap index.

UN Women Fiji Multi-Country office deputy representative Nicolas Burniat said it was good for Fiji to be counted on this index.

He reasoned there was a need for well-informed data to monitor progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially its fifth goal on gender equality.
