Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to announce the new salaries of Cabinet ministers in the coming days.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, he said they had already committed to salary reductions in their party manifesto.

“There are some announcements that will come soon about the cost of the ministerial position, so I don’t want to preempt the Prime Minister’s announcement,” Mr Kamikamica said.

“There is a possible cabinet sitting in the next couple of days. So I’ll leave it to the Prime Minister to make any announcements there.

“But clearly, in terms of manifesto, we had committed to reductions in ministerial salaries.

“We all know some of the allowances were excessive. So you know, there’s a commitment to look at that to deal with some of those reductions.”
