New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters has highlighted the importance of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening the close relationship between New Zealand and Fiji following a meeting with members of Fiji Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee.
In a post on X, Mr Peters said he was pleased to meet the Fijian parliamentary delegation during its visit to New Zealand.
“Parliamentary cooperation is an important component of New Zealand’s close partnership with Fiji,” Mr Peters said.
The delegation was led by Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence chair and Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua.
She was accompanied by committee deputy chair Rinesh Sharma, Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ratu Tuiwailevu, Assistant Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs Shalen Kumar, Taito Rokomatu and Virendra Lal.
Mr Peters described the discussions positively, saying he was “pleased to meet” the committee.
No details on the visit has been released.
Fiji and New Zealand maintain longstanding bilateral relations, with parliamentary exchanges forming part of the broader relationship between the two Pacific nations.
