The Fiji men’s team has been ranked in 15th place as their campaign at the FIH Hockey 5s World Cup came to an end on Wednesday night.

Fiji earned its first win, defeating Jamaica 4-2 in the 15th place play-off.

Krristofer Mock got a double while Leevan Dutta and captain Terrence Corrie scored a goal each.

Captain Corrie played his last international game for Fiji at the World Cup and was proud of his team’s determination to get this far.

“First ever victory for Fiji men’s in this World Cup and it’s amazing, it’s unreal, I can’t say how much this means to us.

This win is not only for us, but also for our families, our supporters back home and all those who have pitched in whatever way to help us get here.

“We are grateful and thankful to be given this opportunity.

Not many back home got this opportunity to represent their country at the highest stage so I hope this ignites the passion back home for the future generation to continue to strive and I hope this is just the beginning of something great for Fiji hockey,” Corrie stated.

Our national women’s team finished 12th in the world. Meanwhile, the Netherlands won the final, defeating Malaysia 5-2.
