The local media was invited on a tour of what was once the official residence of the Prime Minister.
Located along Ratu Sukuna Rd, the home has been vacant since 2019 when former PM Voreqe Bainimarama moved out into the nearby Chief Justice’s official residence at the junction of Muanikau and Sukuna roads.
Assistant manager projects Seru Tagicakibau of the Ministry of Finance’s Construction Implementation Unit (CIU) said Mr Bainimarama lived at the residence from 2017 to 2019.
The official PM’s residence includes five bedrooms, a maid’s quarters, swimming pool and other amenities.
“When the facility was with the Ministry of Finance, we had carried out renovations. It was around 2017 when we renovated the residence,” Mr Tagicakibau said.
“After we commissioned the home in Nasese, all administration works was handed over to the Office of the Prime Minister.”
Acting permanent secretary in the Prime Minster’s Office Pita Wise said it would cost a substantial amount of money to repair the home at Ratu Sukuna Rd as it had not been properly maintained.
