THE Suva Cricket Association annual Fiji-India PGT T20 competition was launched yesterday at the Albert Park Grounds in Suva.

This will be the fourth edition of the series, held in partnership with the Indian High Commission, bringing together the people of both countries through sport.

This year’s competition features eight teams divided into two pools, with the finals scheduled accordingly. Pool A comprises BSP, Cicia, CAF Warriors, and Police, while Pool B includes Army, Moce, Ono, and Nasaqalau.

Under the theme “Batting for Health and Bowling away Drugs,” Indian High Commissioner Sunnet Mehta emphasised the relevance of the message in addressing the ongoing drug problem.

“This sends a clear message that sport can be an effective tool to build our young communities, and together we can fight this menace as one community, as one vanua,” Mehta said.

Suva Cricket President Sumanta Rout added that the tournament will also feature a business house competition in June, offering Cricket Fiji a broader and more exciting platform to unveil new stars of the game.

This year, LICI, New India Assurance, and NZOTC have also come on board as the tournament’s corporate partners.

The competition will run over the next three weeks, with the grand finals scheduled for 13 June.
