The final day of the 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship had many locals taking part in the 10km and 5km races at the Aviva Racecourse in Nadi yesterday.
Fiji Development Bank general manager risk and Suva resident Bimal Sudharkar told this newspaper the annual event was a moment of self-realization for him.
“This is my second year of participation,” Sudharkar said.
“Last year I did the 5km race for my 46th birthday and after doing that, the experience was to elevate my life.
“This activity are joyous in its own ways; it is not about competition but about what you deliver about yourself.
“It is also good for mental capacity as well, going up the hill and looking at how beautiful Fiji is.
“I’m 46 and my eldest son is 26 who is not into this activity.
“But for me, this is life. To work hard, play hard and enjoy this type of things.
“And coming all the way from Suva preparing for the race.
“This year I did 10km race and next year I will be doing the 21km race.”
Spartan Fiji/New Zealand/Australia managing director Robert Camilleri said they look forward to continuing their partnership with Tourism Fiji and Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
“Fiji is a beautiful country,” Camilleri said.
“You’ve put on a fantastic weekend with the weather, and we are really excited to be invited to run the event here.
“We look forward to continuing the partnership with Tourism Fiji and Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
“We’ve got more locals coming in this year.
“And doing the event last year was a bit of an eye opener and they understood what it was all about.”
