The Electoral Commission of the Republic of Fiji has officially declared the commencement of the campaign period for the next General Election, effective from today, May 25, 2026.

In a statement, the Commission said the campaign period will remain in effect until 48 hours before Election Day, in line with Section 109A(1) of the Electoral Act 2014.

The Commission noted that under the law, the campaign period cannot begin earlier than 30 days before the completion of three years and six months from the date Parliament first sat following the last General Election.

The declaration comes as Fiji prepares for the next General Election, which must be held between August 7, 2026 and February 6, 2027.

According to the Commission, the earliest possible Writ of Election can be issued from June 24, 2026.

The Electoral Commission has urged political parties, candidates, supporters, organisations and members of the public to conduct their campaigns peacefully, truthfully and in accordance with the law.

The announcement also activates a range of electoral rules and campaign-related offences under the Electoral Act, including provisions relating to campaign conduct, political advertising and the use of State resources.
