The Fiji Bulikula team are on the cusp of their 2026 Rugby World Cup dreams, after crushing Canada 48-0, in their IRL World Series semi-final on their home turf in Ontario yesterday.
The win now sets the Bulikulas against Nigeria for the IRL World Series final for the eighth and final women’s berth at the World Cup in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Canada’s loss ends their 2026 World Cup contention after two consecutive appearances in 2017 and 2022.
The Bulikula led their Canadian opponents 12-0 at halftime, they opened the flood gates in the second half scoring 36 unanswered points ending their opponents hope for a third consecutive world cup appearance, with a crushing 48-0 win.
The team’s tries were scored by Cassie Staples, Tahlia Marshall, Isabella Waterman, Sienna Laing, Maria Paseka and Kelilani Manu.
Meanwhile, Nigeria created history by winning their first match outside Africa when they defeated Ireland 10-0 in their semi-final.
The two team are expected to meet in four days time and, when this edition went to press, the match fixtures were yet to be confirmed.
