Fiji Airways will suspend its Nadi–Dallas service from September 7, as the airline adjusts its network in response to soaring jet fuel prices and shifting passenger demand.

The airline said the decision comes despite continued strong demand across key markets, with a focus now on maintaining sustainable routes and global connectivity.

“Due to the ongoing impact of high jet fuel prices and changes in passenger demand, Fiji Airways will suspend its Nadi–Dallas service effective 7 September,” the airline said.

Affected passengers will be re-accommodated through alternative routes, including same-day connections via Los Angeles, as well as services through San Francisco and Vancouver.

Fiji Airways confirmed that customers are being contacted directly, with flexible options such as rebooking, travel credits or refunds available.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Paul Scurrah said the move allows the airline to focus on stronger-performing routes.

“These changes allow us to focus on markets where we are seeing the strongest and most sustainable demand,” Mr Scurrah said.

He added that the airline will continue to operate up to 11 weekly flights to the United States through Los Angeles and San Francisco, while maintaining onward connections to destinations such as Dallas Fort Worth through its partnership with American Airlines.

At the same time, Fiji Airways is increasing capacity in other markets, including upgrading its Vancouver services to larger A350 aircraft from September 8 and boosting Hong Kong flights to up to four times weekly from September 22.

Mr Scurrah noted that global aviation continues to face cost pressures, particularly with jet fuel prices having more than doubled since the start of the year.

Despite this, he said demand remains resilient, especially from Australia and New Zealand, with Fiji continuing to attract strong visitor numbers.

“Given Fiji has just hit an all-time visitor record for March, we know Fiji remains an attractive and accessible destination,” he said.

“Our priority is to maintain reliable services, manage costs responsibly, and ensure confidence in travel to Fiji remains strong.”

Fiji Airways said it will continue working closely with industry partners and Government to support connectivity, while taking a disciplined approach to ensure long-term sustainability.
