Fiji Airports will end its management contract with Fiji Airways on February 28, company chairman Hasmukh Patel announced in a circular to staff members on February 17.
The arrangement for the national airline to oversee Fiji Airports was announced by former attorney-general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the 2022-2023 budget in July last year.
“Fiji Airports has mutually agreed with Fiji Airways to end the collaborative services agreement that was entered into in September 2022,” said Mr Patel
. “While the agreement provided many positives, both organisations decided that it was in the wider interests of aviation in Fiji to end the agreement.
“After careful review we jointly elected with Fiji Airways to chart a new course for both our businesses and have mutually agreed to end the arrangement effective February 28, 2023.
“We appreciate the support of Fiji Airways over the past several months and we are excited to build on the strong and collaborative relationship we created since we formed this partnership.
“I have no doubt that the future of aviation in Fiji is bright, and we look forward to working closely with Fiji Airways and all our aviation partners, to ensure our infrastructure plans and service levels meet the expectations of all.”
Mr Patel also announced that the present CEO at Fiji Airports, Rowan Chalmers, will leave the company and the position was advertised last weekend
. “Mr Chalmers will stay on at Fiji Airports over the next few weeks to assist with the transition and allow us to time to say farewell.”
