The Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s team made an impressive start to their HSBC SVNS Valladolid campaign in Spain, finishing day one unbeaten after two dominant victories.
Coach Osea Kolinisau’s side opened with a commanding 26-12 win over France, showcasing the attacking flair that has long been a trademark of Fijian rugby.
Viwa Naduvalo, George Bose, Apete Narogo and Nacani Boginisoko all crossed for tries as Fiji overwhelmed the French with their pace, support play and offloading game.
Fiji backed their opening performance with another clinical and dominant display against the USA to conclude the first day of competition on a high.
The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team also produced encouraging performances despite mixed results.
Fijiana opened their tournament with a determined 26-19 victory over USA
Their physicality at the breakdown, defensive commitment and ability to respond under pressure were among the standout positives.
However the side then suffered a 45-05 loss to Australia, they struggled to handle Australia’s pace and physical dominance letting the opposition run rampant in Valladolid.
Heading into day two, dominating the collisions, reducing unforced errors and tightening their defensive structures will be key if Fijiana are to challenge the tournament’s top sides and push deeper into the competition.
The final day of the tournament kicks off tonight.
