“I say, why not?”

This was Fiji 7s coach Ben Gollings’ response when asked about Fiji’s chances of winning the World Cup 7s in South Africa next month.

“Every time we go into a tournament, we want to win and I think we are ready,” Gollings said before the team departed for the LA 7s yesterday.

He said he was confident of his team heading into the World Cup 7s.

“We have a very exciting team and we have prepared well for the World Cup.

“We are as confident as we can be. We have done what we need to do.

“We are ready to go out and put the icing on the cake in the Los Angeles 7s and then we have a good two weeks before we actually play in South Africa, which gives us enough time to iron out everything and reconnect.

“We are confident that when it comes to game time, we will be ready because we have prepared exactly how we wanted.”

The former England 7s captain said there would always be external pressures.

“From our standpoint, we are focusing on things we can control and we have prepared in a way that we take our focus into these games.

“It is quite exciting to be on the Fiji team side going into the World Cup. It is a tournament they love to play in and won it on a few occasions.

“Hopefully, we can go out there and win it,” said Gollings.
