Fiji Football Association vice-president Aiyaz Musa and prominent Ba lawyer Samuel Ram have been elected as members of the FIFA Standing Committee for the next four years.

The duo were elected during the 71st FIFA Ordinary Congress last Saturday which was attended by all 211 member countries via the virtual platform.

Musa was elected as a member of the powerful FIFA governance, audit and compliance committee while Ram was elected as a member of the FIFA appeals committee which he had served previously on.

FIFA which is football’s world governing body has nine standing committees that report to the FIFA council.

The FIFA standing committees advise and assist the FIFA Council in their respective fields of function.

Musa and Ram will serve along with Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel, who is a member of the FIFA council which is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for FIFA and global football.

In a press release, Patel congratulated both Musa and Ram for being elected on the FIFA committees.

“It is indeed a milestone achievement for Fiji FA to see two more of our members on the influential committees,” Patel said.

Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said both candidates had to go through a rigorous eligibility check before being endorsed as members.

“Our president worked closely with Oceania Football Confederation and its members to get the Fijians nominated for positions on the FIFA standing committees,” Yusuf said.

“It is pleasing to note that the OFC member countries supported the two Fijians to be elected.

“Fiji FA congratulates them on their achievements and we wish them all the best.”

The FIFA Congress also remembered those hard working members who had passed away with former Fiji FA referee instructor and mentor late Hari Raj Naicker acknowledged as well.
