Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, congratulated the Rewa football side for securing a spot in the OFC Champions League and for winning the 2024 Digicel Fiji Premier League competition, which concluded last month.
Infantino expressed his well wishes in a statement released to the Fiji Football Association.
“Their constant effort throughout the season has paid off, resulting in this important title,” he said.
“Congratulations to each and every member of the team and of the club for this great achievement,” Infantino added.
His comments came in the wake of Rewa’s 3-1 victory, at Govind Park in Ba last month.
Infantino, of Swiss-Italian heritage, has been the president of football’s global parent body since 2016.
Meanwhile, the Delta side is currently preparing itself for the FMF Inter District Competition and is pooled in group B of the Super Premier Division with Western contenders Ba, Nadi and Nadroga.
Roderick Singh, the team coach, in an interview with The Fiji Times last week, said their premier league win and subsequent OFC qualification was an incentive that would compel his side to win more competitions.
As they march into the FMF IDC with their new accolades, standing out from other competing districts, Singh noted his side would need to put on a captivating and defensive performance to lift the IDC trophy.
The side will represent Fiji at the 2025 Oceania Football Championship.
