LAWYER Ritesh Singh has raised serious concerns about FICAC officials approaching Fijian Broadcasting Corporation chief financial officer Vimlesh Sagar without his lawyer being present.
Mr Singh told Magistrate Joseph Daurewa that despite the matter being before the Suva Magistrate’s Court, FICAC officers had approached Mr Sagar earlier this week and asked him questions. He stressed that any communication involving his client should be directed through him.
Mr Sagar, who is charged with one count of general dishonesty causing a loss, is charged with former FBC chief executive Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. The charges relate to the tender and procurement of a 3.0L Volkswagen Touareg valued at $207,470.
Mr Singh and Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s lawyer, Gul Fatima is still awaiting FICAC to provide the requested disclosures since October 2025. The defence is seeking documents relating to the alleged loss cited in the charge.
Mr Singh said the decision to approve the purchase was made by the board and argued that FICAC should not have charged him if it did not have the necessary information.
FICAC prosecutor Josann Pene sought one final week to address the issue granted for further verification. The case has been adjourned to June 23.
