The Lomaiviti Princess VI which ran aground off Ono-i-Lau last week has been towed back to Suva Harbour with its passengers.
Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) CEO Joeli Cawaki confirmed there were 90-plus passengers and crew members on board and that all returned to Suva safely.
“The Lomaiviti Princess VI was on a routine trip to Ono-i-Lau in southern Lau,” Mr Cawaki said.
“When it came to Ono-i-Lau, it ran aground at the entrance to Ono-i-Lau, where it always anchored.”
He said MSAF was informed that the vessel had been taking in water.
“We’ll carry out an investigation on what really happened when the vessel arrives.”
Mr Cawaki confirmed there was no report of injury among the passengers or crew.
“We are going to do a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident.”
Mr Cawaki said the vessel was towed back to Suva by the Lomaiviti Princess XII.
“Both vessels are in Suva now.
“Lomaiviti Princess XII departed Suva to assist when the message was received that the boat had gone aground. It managed to pull off LP6 from the reef.”
