The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) says its okay with the amalgamation with the Consumer Council of Fiji.

FCCC stated this is in a response to the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs that reviewed the FCCC’s 2018-2019 annual report.

The committee had asked FCCC on their views on amalgamating FCCC and CCF.

“Amalgamating the two organisations would further enhance and promote the consumer protection laws in Fiji,” said FCCC in a written response.

“The amalgamation can clearly demarcate the advocacy and enforcement roles between the two organisations.

“Stronger relationships between the two organisations would also strengthen consumer protection laws in Fiji and will create dynamic and effective market for business to grow and offer more protection to consumers.”

CCF is an advocacy organisation, conducting rigorous research and policy analysis on key consumer issues and is a statutory organisation established under the Consumer Council of Fiji Act (Cap 235).

The FCCC states on its website it promotes effective competition, informed markets, encourages fair trading and protects consumers.
