THE Speaker of Parliament and Turaga na Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has the support of his family and vanua.
Speaking following a special Parliament sitting which declared Ratu Naiqama as the President-elect, proud son Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu said this was a special moment for the Lalabalavu family.
“For me, it’s a bit of mixed feelings as a Member of Parliament and being the son of the President-elect,” Dr Lalabalavu said.
“But nevertheless, he was voted in on the floor of Parliament.”
He said Ratu Naiqama has committed most of his work to the people of Fiji and would continue to do so as the next President.
“From my family’s perspective, I believe he has reached the pinnacle of his career in terms of service to the country.
“And with that I wish him well and I believe the whole of our family is in support and the vanua.”
Ratu Naiqama will continue his role as Speaker of Parliament until November 11, succeeding outgoing President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
