Family support is backbone

MEMBERS of the Flying Fijians family were farewelled at the Grand Pacific Hotel for their tour in Melbourne Australia.

Proud father Sekaia Waqaniburotu said family support played a major role in his son, Dominiko Waqaniburotu and the team’s performance.

“We’re thankful to God for this talent and one advice that we always tell him is to work hard and make use of the talent,” Sekaia said.

“We have a strong support base towards his rugby career and for us, his diet, preparation and how he keeps himself fit are something that we always remind him off.

“Something that he learns while in New Zealand is how he maintains his diet and he is very conscious with what he eats.

“So when he visits us we always make sure we give him the kind of food that will help his body so this is the kind things that families come in.

“It’s not always about the money it’s about how we can input towards their training lives and also we support whenever he plays whether with the Fiji team or his French club,’ Waqaniburotu said.

The retired education officer said Dominiko was a quiet person and was an athlete back in school.

“In his early childhood he was an athlete in primary school and then he came to Draiba Primary School he then joined their Milo Kaji team.

“He was a product of Milo Kaji his love for rugby developed and continued when he joined Marist Brothers High School and then Ratu Kadavulevu School.
