A family of five escaped unharmed after their home was destroyed in a fire at Velovelo, Lautoka, on Saturday morning.
Homeowner Imtiaz Ali said the family lost all their belongings in the blaze and escaped with only the clothes they were wearing.
Mr Ali had left home to run an errand to town and returned at about 10.30am to find his four-bedroom wooden and concrete house engulfed in flames.
Despite efforts to save some of his possessions, the fire spread rapidly and destroyed the home.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, Mr Ali suspected an electrical fault in the living room may have sparked the blaze.
The family is now staying with relatives as they come to terms with their loss.
Mr Ali said officers from the National Fire Authority arrived about 20 minutes after the fire was reported.
The extent of the damage is yet to be officially confirmed.
Attempts to obtain comments from the National Fire Authority and Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa were unsuccessful.
Members of the public wishing to assist Mr Ali and his family can contact him directly on 7012072 or 8317450.
