FORMER driving instructor Sandeep Anand Reddy, convicted of issuing a fraudulent taxi permit and obtaining a total of $950, has been sent to prison.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne has ordered Reddy to serve 12 months in jail and the remaining 12 months suspended for three years.
Reddy was found guilty of a count of false or misleading documents and two counts of obtaining financial advantage committed in 2022.
He had sought a suspended sentence, however, Mr Somaratne declined the request, noting the increasing prevalence of individuals impersonating agents of the LTA to defraud members of the public seeking taxi permits.
