THE Queen Victoria School (QVS) Under-18 side will look to make a strong statement when they take on traditional rivals Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) in the Eastern Zone Deans semi-final at 4pm today at the Dawasamu Secondary School Ground.
While today’s Eastern Zone semi-finals remain the immediate focus, QVS is already looking beyond the zonal competition and towards the national stages of the Vodafone Deans competition.
QVS principal Waliki Nasau says the school’s preparations this season have centered on improving from last year’s campaign and building momentum on the national rounds.
“Just to improve on last year. They did well in the zone, but the focus now is not only on the zone; it is our road to the national quarter-finals,” Nasau said.
The principal revealed that the school has elevated its preparations this year as it seeks to remain among Fiji’s leading rugby schools.
“As far as QVS is concerned, we are stepping up to another level compared to last year in terms of preparations.”
The defending Lutubula Trophy holders have been quietly preparing for the season, with the school placing emphasis on long-term development rather than short-term success.
Today’s semi-final against arch-rivals RKS will provide another opportunity for QVS to test its progress.
A victory would not only secure a place in the Eastern Zone final but also strengthen the school’s confidence ahead of the national rounds.
With the Vodafone Deans competition becoming increasingly competitive every year, QVS believes raising its standards now will be crucial in achieving success later in the season.
For the Delana boys, the journey does not end with the Eastern Zone competition.
The bigger goal remains a strong national campaign and another shot at Deans’ glory.
