Reigning Pacific ‘sprint king’ Banuve Tabakaucoro, has set his eyes for some gold at the 2022 Pacific Mini Games in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands.

The ‘Bau bullet’ said he had been very fortunate to be given the chance to represent his country again.

“I am very grateful to Fiji Sports Council for keeping the ANZ Stadium open and allowing us to train,” Tabakaucoro said.

“Ever since the lockdown and the cancellation of sporting events, I had to do my own training.

“Since October last year, I have been working on my running techniques and skills.”

He said things had been looking good.

“There has not been a lot of competition and for me, it’s just getting back to the basics and hopefully I can go to Australia and finish off the season competing there.

“I want to take part in the World Championships later this year and to take part in as many overseas competitions as it will help me build-up for the mini-games.”

He said to help him with his training, he watched international athletes competing — especially in Europe competitions.

“That is what keeps me motivated and I have been pushing myself to their pace and strength.”
