THE Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team will have less than four weeks from Christmas to prepare for the Perth 7s tournament in Australia.
The team is currently on a break with players, coaches and management given time to spend the festive season with their families.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau has reminded his players of the short-turn around period they have as their next assignment is scheduled for next month.
“My advice to the players is just to have a bigger picture in mind and remember that we have a short turn around,” he said.
Captain Jeremaia Matana has spoken about the standards that Kolinisau has set for all the players in the squad to meet.
He (Matana) said upon the team’s arrival from Cape Town; “Each player in the team knows the standards set by coach. He (Kolinisau) has given us the freedom of choice but one thing he says that when training resumes, the numbers won’t lie so we can’t be complacent.”
Kolinisau reiterated the importance of maintaining consistency.
“Sometimes we have to make sacrifices to get the results that’s needed,” he added.
Fiji 7s returned with a Cup and gold medal from Dubai as well as a bronze from Cape Town in South Africa.
They currently sit on top of the series table with 36 points.
The second leg of the HSBC SVNS Series starts with the Perth 7s scheduled for January 24-26.
