FLYING Fijians skipper Dominiko Waqaniburotu is aware of the expectations from the nation for the team to perform this weekend.

He said the team needed to continue its performance from where it left off last year in its historic win against France in Paris.

“Not only for me, but for the team. There is always pressure,” Waqaniburotu said.

“The pressure and expectations of everyone is for us to do well.”

Waqaniburotu said the pressure for him was to be a good captain who had to shoulder the burden of a leader of the team.

“I try my best to cope with that by talking to the players and them talking to me which also take away the pressure from me,” he said.

Waqaniburotu said the win against France was history, but the team would not rest on their laurels going into this weekend against a strong New Zealand Maori All Blacks outfit.

“It was a good win and historic. We have a long campaign ahead of us heading into the Rugby World Cup.

“We will take what we can from that win and put it into our games coming up.”

The Flying Fijians play the NZ Maori All Blacks on Saturday at the ANZ Stadium in Suva at 3pm.
