Miliana Korosigasiga, a Year 13 student at Swami Vivekananda College, urges young women to embrace opportunities beyond the classroom after gaining life-changing skills through the educational youth and sports training program.
Korosigasiga said the program, hosted by the Fiji National Sports Commission and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, had given her the opportunity to learn valuable skills she never imagined she could acquire.
She said the training had broadened her knowledge and could also provide opportunities for a future side career.
“The program has been a great help to me because it has taught me skills I didn’t know I could learn,” Korosigasiga said.
Korosigasiga also highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for females in sports, describing the training as a significant experience in a field often viewed as male dominated.
“Especially for sports, it is mostly known as a male-dominated field, so it is a big opportunity for me as a female, learning so much in this program,” she said.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, allowing students to enhance our learning through these programs.”
Korosigasiga completed and received certificates in the Train the Trainer Programme and horticulture, gaining knowledge that she believes will be useful both personally and professionally.
She said her horticulture training would allow her to apply practical skills in her everyday life, including developing a garden at home.
