Athletics Fiji coach Antonio Raboiliku believes this years Coca-Cola Games will be an interesting one.

Closely following the zones that have been concluded, Raboiliku is sure that so many surprises will be seen in this year’s Fiji Finals.

He said its a promising sign to see schools regarded as minnows giving the traditional giants a good run for gold.

“This Fiji Finals is going to be interesting given that this is the first time that we are doing a national qualifier, and the national qualifying standard is not easy which means that students who come to the Coke Games are the cream of the zones,” Raboiliku said.

“We expect the competition to be much higher than those in the past years.”

The coach behind the success of Marist Brothers High School in winning the boy’s title last year has already eyed some promising talents.

“Hats off to schools like Rampur College and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School which have written new history in their respective zones this year.

“It’s encouraging to see the minority come up and challenge the big names.

For us at Athletics Fiji, it is an objective obtained when schools compete just for one particular event which will raise the standards of the sport and auger for a better national team for the Oceania Games in June and the Mini Games next year,” he added.

MGM created history last Friday by winning the Suva Zone 1 boys title for the first time and retaining the girls’ title.

14-year-old Lora Fracesca of Rampur College shocked the crowd in Suva Zone 2 when she took out two gold in the 3000m open girls and 800m final.

The Fiji Finals is scheduled for May 2-4 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
