Evacuate now if you have to while its still daylight, the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has advised.

NDRMO states while the country has been experiencing periods of heavy rain with an active trough of low pressure since Wednesday 25th December 2024, which remains slow moving over the Northeastern parts of Fiji, there is another Tropical Disturbance [01F] that lies about 152 km West-Northwest of Yasawa-l-Rara.

It is anticipated to bring more rain and affect the Fiji Group until later Monday.

“As a result of continuous rain, the soil saturation has increased cases of landslips and landslides. Therefore, we urge motorists to remain vigilant and take extra precautions while travelling on the roads,” states NDRMO.

“NDRMO urges the public to be aware of the possibility of flash floods and continue to take the necessary preparedness measures, including the need to EVACUATE during DAYLIGHT if required.”

“If you are moving into an Evacuation Centre, please ensure to take your emergency kits with you that should include basic needs to sustain your family for at least 2 days. If you need assistance in evacuation, please contact the Fiji Police on 917.”
