Fiji’s provincial unions are preparing for the resumption of the Skipper Cup, Farebrother Trophy challenge and Vanua Championship.

Lautoka, which was demoted from major union in 2020, has been boosted with the donation of some training equipment this week from its sponsors to help prepare for the Vanua Championship.

“Most of the equipment from the past years had worn out and needs changing,” union senior men’s team manager George Blake said.

“The new equipment supplied by our major sponsors will benefit Lautoka Rugby Union in terms of team training and being a morale booster for our young and upcoming players. Some of them are playing rugby for the first time and to participate at provincial level is a testament for itself.”

The union has recorded an influx of interest from both genders after the success of the code in Super Rugby Pacific which includes some players from the West, the Fiji men’s 7s gold medal and the Fijiana 7s’ bronze medal victory in the Tokyo Olympics.

“Our sponsors are proud to be associated in community building and partnership through rugby as it covers the men and women in sports,” Blake said.

“Lautoka is proud as we have most of our women players in the Fijiana 7s team and Fijiana Drua team. They are role models together with Viliame Satala, the Fiji 7s team assistant coach to our upcoming players.

“I thank the staff and management of Bargain Box Pte Ltd, General Machinery and Motors Ltd, Arrow Concrete and Engineering Ltd, and Auto World Ltd for their kind assistance.”
