Empower disabled people

THE Pacific Disability Forum (PDF) in collaboration with the Fiji Disabled People’s Federation launched its four-day-workshop in Suva yesterday.

With the theme, Preventing Violence against Women and Girls with disabilities in Fiji, the workshop aims to strengthen the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities.

Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation president, Rakesh Chand said women and girls with disability were most vulnerable to violence compared with women and girls without disabilities.

He said the workshop would not only strengthen the inclusion of women and girls with disabilities but also empowered them.

“Women and girls with disabilities experience more discrimination because they are both women and persons with disabilities. Women and girls with disabilities are exposed to a greater risk of violence and abuse, compared to those without disabilities.”

Representatives from the various disabled peoples organisations all over the country were part of this essential workshop.
